The Building Inspector approves all permits for signs, fences and new homes (to name a few) and calculates related fees. The Department also collaborates with the Planning Commission and processes all paperwork for the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The Building Department is responsible for implementing and enforcing our local zoning and building codes. It assists in establishing a minimum standard necessary to make all dwelling and structures safe, sanitary, free from fire and health hazards and fit for human habitation. To accomplish this goal, the Building Department conducts zoning inspections on commercial property and building and zoning inspections on residential property, records resident complaints, dispatches service personnel, records water breaks, generates property maintenance violations and performs a variety of other activities involving buildings and properties within the Village.
The Department maintains files on every property in the Village with building permits, inspection records and zoning inquiries contained therein.
The Building Department is responsible for administering and enforcing local and state regulations applicable to the occupancy and construction of buildings in the Village including:
- Contractor Registration
- Plan Review
- Issuance of Building Permits
